Tonks took a deep breath, a shaky hand reaching out for the doorknob. She was so excited, as she'd just found out that she was pregnant. She hoped that Remus would be excited too, but she was a little afraid that he'd be upset because of the war and his condition. Still, she smiled, and entered their little apartment (which had just been hers before, but which they now shared.)
"Remus?" she called, as she walked into the living room, dropping her bag on the couch. "Love? I'm home!" she said, picking her cuticles nervously as she thought of how she was going to say this and how he might react.

Remus was sleeping in the chair, his head buried in the latest issue of the Daily Prophet. As happened every timehe tried to read the paper, he became bored with all the lies they spread about. Since he was in the Order, he had all the information before the paper had a chance to grossly skew an issue. This day, however, he had fallen into a peaceful sleep instead of the uncomfortable, agitated sleep he had been experiencing as of late. The war was wearing him down, and it was so hard to keep up with his young wife at times. He was dreaming of her for a good while until he heard the turning of the doorknob. The first thing he saw was his wife's beautiful face, though not very much of it, for her head was down. She was picking nervously at her fingers, but her voice sounded normal. Remus could tell that she was trying to hide something.
"Hello, dear." He embraced her warmly. "Anything new?" He looked straight into her eyes. This was his way of getting her to tell him what was going on without prying. Anyway, she needn't be nervous. She could tell him anything in the world and he would continue to love her more each day.

Tonks couldn't help but smile as Remus hugged her, her own arms sliding around him, holding him close. She sighed when he pulled back and looked into her eyes. She loved the way he knew her so well as to be able to subtly get things out of her. She remained silent for a moment, then decided to tell him carefully.
"Remus... Wegoingtohavebaby." she blurted out. Oh yes, so careful. "We're going to have a baby..." she mumbled.

Remus looked at her, puzzled. SHe had mumbled something incoherent, and he could make no sense of it. A moment later, she told him what was on her mind. His eyes widened and his mouth fell open. He swayed a little on the spot before finally coming to his senses. He broke into wild laughter and swept Nymphadora off of her feet, planting kisses all over her. He put her down, realizing finally that she was pregnant. She needed to be handled carefully now. He hugged her again, but gently this time. "I love you so much." The realization of what this would mean for his child would not set in until later. For now, he and his wife enjoyed thier moment of overjoyed happiness.

His reaction made her laugh wildly too, glad that he was happy and not worried. Tonks grinned from ear to ear as he kissed her all over, and her laughter was slow to fade when he put her down. "You know what? I suppose I love you too." she giggled slightly, poking him playfully in the chest. Her body relaxed into him, her arms loosely wrapped around his neck. She smiled, tilting her head up to look into his eyes, "I can't believe we're going to be parents..." she whispered happily, kissing him on the lips.

"Nor can I." His smile, too, began to fade. The realization was starting to hit him. How could he do this to a child? Passing on his problem to someone else when he could have prevented it. His mouth hung open and his eyes became unfocused. He dropped his head down towards the floor. Remus brought his gaze back up to her and pasted that grin back on his face. His laughter was slightly nervous and false now. "We're having a baby," he whispered as he pulled her into a tight hug to prevent her from seeing the sad and frightened look on his face.

Tonks had noticed his change and a worried expression crossed her face. She could sense that he was not as happy as he was letting on, she knew him too well. "Remus..." she murmured, "Love... Don't worry about it... There's always the chance that it's not genetically passed along..." she sighed, rubbing his back, "Besides, I love you, and so do plenty of people... It's not the end of the world if it howls at the moon once a month."
